Catalog Undo

Catalog Undo — Help & FAQ

Need help? Contact us through our support form at https://workalong.app/support and choose "Catalog Undo". Include your store's myshopify.com address and, for a restore, the restore's ID from its page.

Getting started

What happens when I install? The app takes a full snapshot of your products and collections. A few hundred products usually take a few minutes; very large catalogs take longer. You can close the app while it runs. Change history starts from this first snapshot.

What does the app track? Products (title, description, handle, vendor, type, status, tags, category, SEO title and description, theme template), options, variants (price, compare-at price, SKU, barcode, tax, "continue selling when out of stock", track quantity, requires shipping, weight), product media (which images/videos are attached and their alt text), metafields on products and collections, collection membership, and collection settings (title, description, handle, sort order, image, SEO, theme template, smart-collection conditions for reference).

What doesn't it track? Customers, orders, inventory quantities (shown for reference only, never restored), themes, pages, blogs, navigation, discounts, sales-channel publishing, variant metafields, and data stored by other apps.

How quickly are changes captured? On Starter and Pro, usually within a minute of Shopify notifying the app. On Free, once a day. Several edits to the same product within about 30 seconds are recorded as one change.

Can I see who made a change? No. Shopify does not tell apps which staff member or app made an edit. The app shows what changed and when.

Restoring

How do I restore a single field? Open Change history, click the product, pick the version you want, tick the fields to restore, then click "Preview restore". Review the preview, run the dry run, then click "Run restore".

How do I undo a bulk edit or a bad CSV import? (Starter and Pro) On Home, bulk changes (10 or more items changed within a couple of minutes) appear as cards, usually within about 3 minutes of the edit (the app records each edit, then groups recent edits about 2 minutes later; a long import can show a card that grows until it finishes). Home shows "Detecting bulk changes…" while it waits and updates by itself. Click "Preview undo". Only the fields that the bulk change touched are reverted. Fields edited again afterwards are kept as they are unless you choose otherwise. You can also undo everything in a time range from Change history.

What is the dry run? It re-reads every affected item from your store and checks each step without changing anything. It shows which steps will apply, which are already done, and which conflict with newer edits.

What does "Removes data" mean? Restoring an older version can mean removing things that were added later: a variant, a metafield, or a product's membership in a collection. Those steps are marked "Removes data" and only run if you tick the confirmation box. If you don't, they are skipped and everything else is restored.

What does "Skipped: changed since preview" mean? Someone (or another app) edited that field after you opened the preview. To avoid overwriting newer work, the app skipped it. Open a new preview if you still want to restore it.

Can I undo a restore? Yes. Before changing anything, the app saves the current version of every affected item. Open the item's history and restore the version marked "Before a restore".

Is running the same restore twice safe? Yes. Each step checks the live value first and is skipped if it is already restored.

Can I recreate a deleted product or collection? (Starter and Pro) Yes, from the Recycle bin. The recreated item gets a new ID and starts unpublished. The original handle is reused when it is free. Titles, descriptions, variants, prices, SKUs, barcodes, metafields, tags and collection membership come back. Manual collections get their products back; smart-collection conditions must be re-entered by hand (the old conditions are shown in history).

Does a recreated product get its stock back? No. Inventory quantities are not restored; stock starts at 0. Stock changes with every sale, so an old number could let you oversell. The preview and the result show the last recorded stock for each variant so you can re-enter it in Shopify admin.

Does a recreated product get its images back? On Starter and Pro, Catalog Undo keeps its own copy of your product images, because Shopify deletes a product's image files when the product is deleted. Recreated products get their images back from that copy. Images we have no copy of (for example, added less than a minute before the deletion) can't be restored; the preview lists them before you run anything. (An image deleted from a product that still exists is re-added the same way: from our copy, or from Shopify if it still has the file.)

What isn't restored automatically? Variant order, media order, image alt text, smart-collection conditions, inventory quantities, images we have no copy of, and sales-channel publishing. The restore page lists anything that needs a manual step at the top, before you run it.

Plans and billing

How much does it cost? Free: daily snapshot, 7-day history, up to 500 products, single-product restores. Starter ($6.99/month): 30-day history, changes captured within minutes, bulk undo, recycle bin, exports, up to 10,000 variants. Pro ($14.99/month): 365-day history, mass-change email alerts, unlimited variants. Prices are flat and never depend on your order count. Paid plans have a 14-day free trial.

How does the free trial work? The 14-day trial starts when you approve Starter or Pro, and nothing is charged during it. After the trial, Shopify bills the plan every 30 days and adds the charge to your regular Shopify bill. Because app charges are collected with your Shopify bill, the "first charge date" in Shopify's confirmation email can be later than the day the trial ends. Switch to Free or uninstall before the trial ends and you are not charged.

How do I cancel? Settings & plan → Switch to Free, or uninstall the app. Billing is handled by Shopify and stops automatically.

What happens to my history if I downgrade? History older than the new plan's window is removed at the next daily cleanup.

Data and privacy

Does the app access customer or order data? No. It only requests access to products and inventory. See the Privacy Policy.

What happens when I uninstall? Collection stops immediately. Shopify asks us to erase your data 48 hours later, and we delete everything then.

Can I download my data? (Starter and Pro) Yes. Exports → Products (Shopify CSV), which you can re-import from Products → Import, or a JSON file with products and collections.

Troubleshooting

"Your catalog is larger than your plan covers": snapshots pause until you upgrade; existing history stays available.

"The last snapshot didn't finish": the app retries automatically within the hour.

A restore step failed with "Shopify rejected the change": the message shows Shopify's reason (for example, a handle already used by another product). Fix the conflict in Shopify admin and run a new preview.

"Check manually": the connection dropped while creating an item, so the app can't tell whether it was created. Check Shopify admin before trying again so you don't create a duplicate.
